Anne of Green Gables is one of my favorite books in the world and is such a delightful read. It’s wonderful for nearly all age groups and I mostly recommend it to girls but some well read young men would enjoy it as well!
Anne Shirley is an orphan with a wild imagination and bright red hair to match. When she first comes to the little town of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island her mind is full of hope and expectation, but when she realizes that the Cuthbert’s wanted a boy instead of a little girl, her heart is crushed and she falls into the “depths of despair.” Thankfully things take a good turn and she finally finds a true bosom friend and the feeling of love that she always craved.
Anne is also prone to “getting into scrapes” and boy does she get into quite a few, but you will find yourself laughing and smiling until your face hurts as you read all about Anne’s antics! You will absolutely fall in love with the characters and feel as if you too have been transported to Avonlea as Anne walks through the “White Way of Delight,” and past the “Lake of Shining Waters”.
L.M. Montgomery has a way of helping you not just see the words on the page, but the actual place itself through her lavish descriptions. Sometimes, in some books, you can be tempted to lose focus when the descriptions are too long and drawn out, but not with hers. On no, definitely not in Anne of Green Gables.
So go brew a pot of tea and settle in with a cozy blanket as you read Anne of Green Gables!
