My number one all time favorite Fantasy series is C.S.Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia. If you have not read these books then I think it’s about time! Throughout the seven books you will watch the formation of Narnia in The Magician’s Nephew , go through the Golden Age of the kings and queens, and end up with the epic conclusion The Last Battle (The name basically explains it all! :) ). These books are great for kids, but all age groups should read them, including parents!

The second series I will recommend is the Mark of the Thief Trilogy by Jennifer A Nielsen. Set during the time of the Roman Empire, a young boy named Nick is working in the mines of Rome. There, hidden deep underground, he discovers a bulla (an ancient amulet) that will forever change his life. The Bulla is rumored to have belonged to Julius Caesar himself and contains epic powers that could save, or destroy, the whole known world. This series is more geared to teenagers, and would be found in the Young Adult section of your library.

The Hobbit by J.R.R.Tolkien is also a wonderful one. My favorite way to read it is to listen to the audio by Andy Serkis. It is one of the most amazing things I have ever heard! He does all the voices spectacularly, and his voice for the dragon especially is inhuman! I highly recommend listening to this in the car or while you are doing other activities and need a good story that will send chills up your spine!
