The Cross and the Switchblade

I’m not a huge Non fiction kind of girl, but I do really enjoy stories and The Cross and the Switchblade by David Wilkerson with John and Elizabeth Sherrill was both! It was rather intense at times and dealt with hard subjects like drugs, alcohol, sexual content, and violence, so read at your own discretion.

David Wilkerson was living the pleasant life of a rural pastor when God placed a call on his life to the gang members of New York City. It all started with one short trip that would turn into a lifetime of evangelism, outreach, and encouragement. It was a rocky start, and David was shocked to discover what gang life was like… like nothing he had ever seen before. But God has a way of using these terrible situations and turning them into something beautiful. Throughout the years the Lord brought one gang member after another into his arms and they in turn shared the good news with those around them.

I would not recommend this book for young readers, but it is incredibly moving and inspiring nonetheless. The audiobook is also very enjoyable. Happy Reading!!
