The Giver (Lois Lowry)

The Giver had been recommended to me by so many friends and my mom also read it and said that she really liked it. So one day I saw it on our shelf, picked it up, and started reading. The spark had ignited. I could not put it down for two hours until I was forced to do it.

It held me captivated in such a strange and semi creepy way. It is not a horror story by any means, but there are definitely aspects that give you the shivers. The ending is perfect in a unique way. It almost seems unfinished, yet as I thought about it more and more, I realize that it was just the right way to end the book.

The Giver is a wonderfully impactful story that gives you a better appreciation for simple things we usually take for granted such as color, family, love, and memories.
Jonas has grown up in a community where each member has everything chosen for them. jobs, spouses, children. Everyone is like the other. They all obey the same rules, eat the same food, and play the same games. If you violate a rule you get punished, if you violate too many rules you get released.
But Jonas is different, and his whole, normal life changes when he turns 12 and his job is chosen. Unlike the others it’s a physically straining task, and one that he is forbidden to ever tell anyone about. Not even his parents.
This book will keep you hooked the whole time albeit in a slightly eerie way. But it is a worthwhile read for sure.

Happy reading!
